Education Programs Assistant/ Site Coordinator
Location: Louis Farrell Elementary School, Al-Bustan hub, and remote
Reports to: Education Coordinator/ Site Director
Hours: Part-Time, approximately 10 hours per week, Onsite – Tuesday/ Thursday, 2 pm – 5:15pm
Compensation: $25/ hour
Job Summary:
The Programs Assistant/ Site Coordinator supports the operations of Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture’s School Arab Arts after-school arts program with the Philadelphia School District’s Out of School Time (OST) program. The Programs Assistant/ Site Coordinator will provide logistical, administrative, and hands-on support to ensure a safe, engaging, and creative environment for youth participants. This role is ideal for someone passionate about arts education, youth development, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and interact with middle school students (grades 6 – 8) to ensure their safety and well-being.
Take attendance and help maintain accurate program records.
Facilitate snack and social time with students.
Assist in the setup and breakdown of daily program activities and classroom spaces.
Help prepare art supplies, set up drums, and distribute materials for daily lessons and special events.
Support teaching artists during sessions by helping manage materials, assisting with student engagement, and ensuring a positive learning environment.
Maintain the cleanliness and organization of program spaces and supply areas.
Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and students as needed.
Support behavior management in alignment with the program's values and policies.
Assist in planning and executing program events, field trips, showcases, and exhibitions.
Assist with recruiting and retaining students for the program.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Education Coordinator/ Site Director.
Qualifications:
Experience working with children or youth in an educational, camp, or after-school setting.
Interest or background in the arts (visual arts, dance, theater, music, etc.) preferred.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Dependable, punctual, and flexible.
Must meet all Pennsylvania Clearance requirements in accordance with the Philadelphia School District.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with arts education or youth development.
Bilingual skills (especially Arabic) are a plus.
Work Environment:
This position requires active participation in a fast-paced, creative, and youth-centered environment. The program will run in classrooms at Louis Farrell Elementary school, but will schedule field trips off-site, including an exhibition and performance at Al-Bustan.
