Al-Bustan’s Summer Camp offers an immersive, arts- and culture-centered experience for young learners, grades K-12. Campers engage in a wide range of activities, including Arabic language learning, storytelling, Arabic calligraphy, visual arts, music, drumming, and, for the first time ever, swimming! Rihla: Voyages through the Arab World and Beyond 

“Traveling leaves you speechless then turns you into a storyteller.” - Ibn Battuta 

In a comprehensive travelogue called Rihla or The Journey, Ibn Battuta documents his prolific travels throughout the Arabic Peninsula, but also across North Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, China, and parts of Southeast Europe, covering nearly 75,000 miles over 29 years. The voyage took him through the Arab world and beyond, documenting his experiences with diverse cultures and societies in impressive detail, inspiring others to be travelers as means of curiosity, intercultural exchange, and storytelling.  

Using voyage as a bridge between cultures, Al-Bustan campers will be journeying to near and distant lands experiencing artistic practices from regions Ibn Battuta visited. Building on this legacy, this summer camp programming will embody Ibn Battuta’s spirit of exploration, highlighting intercultural exchange, broadening perspectives, and honoring the diversity of human expression.
