Palestinian-American poet Ahmad Almallah is the award-winning author of three books of poetry and an artist-in-residence in the creative writing program at the University of Pennsylvania. In this video, he describes how loss — of his homeland, his language, his mother’s memories — has shaped his life and work.

Ahmed Hassouna is an Egyptian-American filmmaker, educator and media producer based in Philadelphia. His work focuses on storytelling rooted in identity, migration, culture and community voices. He has collaborated with community and cultural organizations in Philadelphia, producing documentaries and shortform media that explore art, social issues and personal narratives. His background includes filmmaking, journalism and media education across both Egypt and the United States.
